Where do your ideas flow?

Not where from, or where to, but ‘where’ – in which surroundings is your mind free to come up with new ideas? Where do you feel your imagination can wander freely? Is it about a place or about time as well? Do you need to be surrounded by people? Or do you need privacy?

For me walking in nature, being outdoors is really great. Also having a nice quiet place at home with a good natural light (understood by a window, not in a dark corner :D) really serves me amazingly for getting into a relaxed state where my ideas and inspiration can flow. When the weather is not inviting for the outdoors and our flat is not offering a ‘nice quiet place’, then there are cafes. ❤️

Going to a cafe. Finding a perfect table. A table near a large window with abundance of natural light. There I sit and while listening to the sounds my ideas can flow. The sound of a coffee machine. Of the staff hurrying around to wipe the tables. Of the door opening and closing as people keep coming in and out. Of friends chatting, families laughing with their kids. A dog barking as it comes in with their owner getting a cup of hot coffee. Having these sounds around is relaxing. Somehow it takes a pressure off my inner critique and allows me to think more freely. Amazingly there is one place in Prague where I can also paint. That is quite rare. But it helps so much when there is no other space because with each new work no matter how small or simple, you learn something new about your craft. 🙂

Lee Krasner, an American abstract expressionist painter, would paint really small paintings in her bedroom, when it was necessary. When the time came and presented her with a large space her work also grew in scale. She never stopped painting since she decided to become a painter at the age of 14. She always kept working through her life, continuously learning and evolving. She was dedicated to her art. I love her work and that she never succumbed to be creating just in ‘ones style’ but stayed free.

I wish you can find and enjoy space where your ideas can flow.
